Instagram scheduler for client teams

Schedule Instagram image posts and image carousels for Business and Creator accounts through Composio, with each post approved as an exact version and receipted from the permalink Instagram returns. Video and Reels stay off until container-readiness polling is verified, and first comments are not sent.

Instagram lane

What the Instagram lane does today.

  • Single image posts

One JPEG image up to 8 MB with a caption of up to 2,200 characters. The image is created as a media container, then published as a separate step.

  • Image carousels

Between 2 and 10 JPEG images in a fixed order. Each child gets its own container, then the parent carousel is published with the children in the approved order.

  • Alt text carried through

Alt text on each image is sent with its container, so the accessibility text you approved is the text Instagram receives.

  • Business and Creator accounts only

The account must be linked through Meta as a Business or Creator account. Personal Instagram accounts are not supported.

  • Publishing cap awareness

Instagram applies an account-specific publishing cap over a rolling 24-hour period. SignalDeck treats it, and HTTP 429, as rate-limit signals and backs off instead of hammering the API.

  • Receipts from the real permalink

The receipt stores the media ID Instagram returns. The permalink is read back from Instagram afterwards; SignalDeck never constructs an Instagram URL itself.

  • Post metrics where Instagram returns them

Likes, comments, views, saves, and shares are read from Instagram's insights for verified publications. A metric Instagram does not return is shown as unknown, not zero.

Formats and limits

Supported formats and limits for Instagram.

These limits come from the lane's capability record and are checked before anything is sent to Instagram. A post that does not fit is stopped with the reason, not published in a degraded form.

  • Caption

    Up to 2,200 characters.

  • Single image

Supported. One JPEG image, up to 8 MB.

  • Carousel

Supported for images only. 2 to 10 JPEG images, order preserved.

  • Other image types

Not accepted. PNG, WebP, and GIF are refused by validation for this lane.

  • Video and Reels

Not available yet. Container-readiness polling for video must be verified first; until then video posts are refused.

  • Text-only posts

Not supported. Instagram publishing requires at least one image.

  • First comment

Not supported. The lane has no first-comment option, so a first comment is not sent.

  • Per-image captions and thumbnails

Not supported. There is one caption for the post.

Scheduling, approval, receipt

How a Instagram post goes from draft to receipt.

Every scheduled post moves through the same publication ledger. Each step is a stored record, so the calendar shows what actually happened rather than what was planned.

  • Content version

The copy, media order, and destination options are frozen into a numbered content version. Editing the post creates a new version, and approvals for the old one no longer count.

  • Destination approval

An approver signs off on that exact version for this Instagram destination, optionally inside a time window. Scheduling outside the window needs reapproval.

  • Delivery intent

Scheduling creates a delivery intent. It is refused if there is no current approval, the destination's identity is not verified, or the destination is held.

  • Publish attempt

A worker claims the intent, validates the payload against the lane's capability record, prepares media in the documented order, and records each attempt and its events.

  • Verified receipt

A post is marked published only when the Instagram publish step returns a media ID. A created container is not a publication, and a publish response without an ID is treated as uncertain.

  • Uncertain writes are reconciled

If a request times out after dispatch, the attempt is marked uncertain and reconciled by looking the post up. It is never blindly retried, and a manual retry is refused while any attempt is unresolved.

  • Pause per destination

Publishing can be paused for one destination, a campaign, a tenant, or everything. Resuming requires an admin and a recorded reason.

Connection and account verification

Connect Instagram and confirm it is the right account.

Connections go through Composio managed OAuth. An authenticated connection is only the first step; SignalDeck reads the account back from the provider before anything is scheduled.

  • Owner or admin connects

Only roles with connection management can start a connection. The flow is signed and expires, so a stale link cannot attach an account later.

  • Identity readback

SignalDeck reads the account's user info from Instagram and stores the returned account ID and username as the destination identity.

  • Explicit confirmation

An owner or admin reviews the identity the provider returned and confirms it. Until then the destination is not verified and nothing can be scheduled to it.

  • Wrong-account holds

If a reconnect returns a different account, confirming it requires an owner or admin, and every scheduled post for that destination is held for re-review instead of going to the new account.

  • One tenant per account

A connected account already registered to another tenant is rejected, so one provider account cannot quietly feed two organizations.

Lane status

Instagram is a launch lane.

  • Available

Image and image-carousel publishing for Business and Creator accounts, with approvals, verified receipts, and post metrics.

  • Pending verification

Video and Reels, including video children inside carousels.

  • Not supported

Personal accounts, the standalone Instagram login, first comments, Stories, and text-only posts.

Who uses this lane

Image-led Instagram programs.

  • Agencies with client sign-off

Clients approve the exact carousel order and caption, and the receipt shows that version is what went live.

  • Product and retail teams

Launch carousels where image order matters, with order preserved from approval to publish.

  • Brands with accessibility standards

Approved alt text travels with each image instead of being retyped in the app.

FAQ

Frequently asked

Can I schedule Reels or video posts?

Not yet. Video and Reels require container-readiness polling that has not been verified, so those posts are refused rather than published incorrectly.

What image sizes and types are accepted?

JPEG images up to 8 MB. A single post has one image; a carousel has 2 to 10 images.

Does SignalDeck post a first comment?

No. The current Instagram lane has no first-comment option. Put hashtags or links in the caption if you need them.

Can I connect a personal Instagram account?

No. Only Business and Creator accounts linked through Meta are accepted.

How long can a caption be?

Up to 2,200 characters. Longer captions are stopped before anything is sent.

How do I know a post really went live?

The receipt is written only after Instagram's publish step returns a media ID. If the response is lost or has no ID, the attempt is marked uncertain and reconciled by looking the media up before anything else happens.
